Pride secure another ROARING victory
Rugby Lionesses 44 Ashfield Ladies 12
The Rugby Lionesses hosted another development ladies team Ashfield Ladies WRFC, with the game taking place at Fiveways OE due to a replacement fixture needing to be played by Fiveways. The Lionesses had great support from travelling fans and they didn’t disappoint them.
From the first whistle to the final blast the Lionesses played like the Pride that they are and commanded the game in all aspects. Captain Gemma Booker lead the team from the front with a great running game and support play with her back line combination moves which allowed Fly half Hayley Richardson, new Lionesses Michelle Ponter and Gemma herself to cross the whitewash for three of the Lionesses 8 tries, winger Lara Judd-Winn was unlucky in some brilliant attempts to break down the wing and cross the try line only being stopped by some great defensive tackling by the Ashfield Ladies. Hayley had a great game with the boot too and supported the score line with two conversions, one that would test any kicker in the game.
The forwards led by Scrum Half Natalie Morris created a strong pack in both attack and defence which helped to create the flowing game that ensued and allowed the backs their freedom to roam. This didn’t stop a fantastic display of tacking and ball control from Hooker Leanne Noakes, Second Row Rebecca Morris, as well as another debutant starter for the Lionesses, Heather Mountford, all but to name a few. Scores were made from Natalie who crossed the line twice proving her ability to pick and go from any situation and find space, Flanker Sian Harrison, No.8 Caz Archer and Prop Nicola Brown, in a team inspired and created victory.
The final whistle brought the Lionesses to another ROARING victory on their mission to gain entry to the National Development Leagues in 2013/14, with the final score of Rugby Lionesses 44 - Ashfield Ladies 12.
