Rugby Lions U14’s v Beverley 50 – 7
Last weekend the Lions hosted a touring team from Beverley. Entertainment was put on for the teams on Saturday and at the beginning of the match on Sunday it was evident that some lads had partied harder than others!
The match was a game of 2 halves. Eventually the lads found their form and Lions applied great pressure to the visitors who defended admirably, but it was Bradley Taylor who made the first break through the Beverley pack. Time and again Sam Wright made some inspired tactical manoeuvres, thwarted by a lack of support, but it led to a period of sustained pressure by the Lions forwards and despite great tackling by the opposition, Bradley hit through to score under the posts.
The second half saw the backs take control and their speed was punishing. Time and again, the ball was fed out to Aiden Leeson who maximised on his opportunity by racing up the pitch to score several times. Bradley also took advantage, along with Jimmy Boughey who both scored under the posts. All the tries in this half were converted by Jimmy who was having an excellent match. Beverley did put up a good fight and in the dying minutes of the game they were rewarded with a well deserved try.
The weekend closed with a tug of war match between parents and players, where the visiting team well and truly got their own back!
