Lionesses ROAR to VictorySun 13 Jan

A cold afternoon greeted the Lionesses and their opponents Fiveways Old Edwardians WRFC to the Webb Ellis Rd, along with the 30 supporters who made the trip to see the Lionesses play their first game of 2013 at home.

The Lionesses started strongly from the whistle and quickly crossed the whitewash Zoe Tripp and Hollie Adams continuing their score tally, along with a first time score for Lioness Kerry Jackson. The Lionesses were playing like the ‘pride’ they are, but some strong rucking and fast handling allowed Fiveways OE to steal a try with a 50m burst from their second row to score by the corner flag.

A short interval slowed the game on the half time whistle after strong defence by Lioness Rebecca Saddler, unfortunately her efforts didn’t stop a strong Fiveways push over the line. Half Time score Lionesses 33 Fiveways OE 10.

The Lionesses started the second half like it was the first, worked hard in defence and strong in attack, allowing Scrum Half Natalie Morris to pick and go from a break down and cross the whitewash for her first try as well. Fiveways showed character and with continued attacks they crossed twice in the second half. The Lionesses didn’t stop there and the team supported Hollie Adams for her hat trick, this linked with a great display of place kicking from Kerry Jackson meant the final score was Rugby Lionesses 45 - Fiveways Old Edwardians 22.

The Lionesses are always looking for more Ladies to join the Pride. So if you are over the age of 18 and want to try something new and be part of a great team, or have played before and the urge to put your boots back on is too great then why not come down to training at the Rugby Lions RFC Seconds Pitch, Webb Ellis Rd, Thursdays 7pm - 9pm.
