Four-midable! Hales and Davies star for CrusadersSat 18 Aug

Rugby Crusaders 74 Rugby St Andrews 3

Scrum-half Neil Davies wasted no time in announcing his arrival back on the rugby field with four tries for Rugby Crusaders in his first appearance of the season on Saturday.

Davies’ four-timer was matched by wing Ade Hales as Crusaders ran out convincing 74-3 winners against Rugby St Andrews.

Half-back partner Steve Goode helped himself to a brace of tries as well kicking seven conversions and Jack Young and Beau Carney also got on the scoresheet in what was the Crusaders’ first game for three weeks and only their second since well before Christmas.

“It was really good to have a game after so long without a fixture,” said coach Mark Ellis. “Considering they had not played for a good few weeks I thought the boys played well once they had got the first ten minutes or so out of the way.

“They played some good attacking rugby despite the atrocious conditions and respect must also be paid to Rugby St Andrews, who never stopped going from the first whistle to last in a game that was played in tremendous spirit.”

Davies’ four-try haul came after the first half of his season had been spent recovering from a shoulder operation.

Ellis added: “He was a bit rusty as you would expect with some of his passing, but he was a threat when he had the ball and he controlled the forwards well.”
